Timeline: 27 August 2008 (Kuala Lumpur)
MAKNA honoured 234 of
its volunteers in a special commendation ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, with 9
receiving the highest awards for their level of contributions and involvement
in MAKNA’s activities in 2007.
The
volunteers were from all backgrounds and walks of life, comprising working
adults, students, teenagers, housewives, and even cancer survivors.
The
top award recipients (ages as at timeline) were as follows:
- "Excellent Award" -
Mr Jacob PC Mathews (65 years old), cancer survivor
- "Volunteer Leadership
Award" - Ms Goh Yin Fun (53), cancer survivor, Ms Biroo Kaur a/p
Gejah Singh (55), cancer survivor, Dr. Siva Sarvana
Kumar (30) & Puan Norelan Bt Ismail (50)
- "Special Recognition
Award" - Ms Biroo Kaur a/p Gejah Singh & Ms Helen Wong Yoke Chan
(64), cancer survivor
- "Promising Youth
Award" - Cik Aizan Sofia Bt Amin (25), cancer survivor, Dr Siva
Sarvana Kumar, En Munawir Bin Ridzwan (31) & En Azmin Md Sidek (34)
MAKNA General Manager, Puan Farahida Mohd Farid said that MAKNA was fortunate
to be blessed with volunteers who were ever prepared to serve which was the
factor that won them the hearts of the patients they had helped.
“Today,
we are here solely to recognise their commitment, dedication and sacrifices and
especially, the caring and selfless side of theirs which have been exemplified
in cases where patients requiring dire help have been looked after, cared for
and given the appropriate encouragement and support when struggling and
battling with cancer of the worst kind,” she said.
