“Shave Lah!” by Ace Society, The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus

On 20 February 2014, more than 50 students from Ace Society, The Nottingham University MalaysiaCampus (UNMC) shaved themselves bald for a good cause and managed to raise RM11, 900.80 for poor cancer patients assisted by MAKNA.

The programme, “Shave Lah” was organised by UNMC in the campus grounds and for the second time. The students had been inspired by MAKNA’s “Jom Botak” event which was held in August 2012 at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya where celebrities and members of the public came forward and shaved their heads bald to help MAKNA raise funds.

Prior to the event, the UNMC students had pledged on their own to raise specific sums for the cause. This was later made good by donations from fellow course-mates, friends and lectures which partially or wholly fulfilled the pledges made.

At the event site, MAKNA took the opportunity to speak to some of the students about their experiences and asked them about their decision to sacrifice their locks and tresses. We will share videos of these interviews soon via our YouTube and Facebook pages.

MAKNA would like to thank It’s Hair Art for their support and generosity in shaving the students’ heads at no charge. To Ace Society, the brave students and the donors, what you have done is simply planting the seed for others to emulate your commendable footsteps. You have all indeed performed a great service towards our fellow human beings affected by cancer. Once again, thank you very much!
